Setting Up Your Orchard Mac (Automated Device Enrollment)

With the Orchard service, it's possible to have your new Mac shipped to a home address, automatically enrolled with our management framework, your user account created and University licensed applications installed.

Prerequisites

This enrollment method will only work if we have added your new Mac to your Device Enrollment Programme site instance. This can be confirmed by contacting your IT Support team. Please do not unbox or switch on your device until it is confirmed that it has been configured to do so.

When your new Mac arrives

  1. Take your Mac out of the box and connect it to power.
  2. Turn on your Mac.
  3. Wait for the Mac to load. It will automatically launch the Setup Assistant asking you to choose a language.
  4. If you are not already connected via Ethernet, the next page will ask you to enter your Wi-Fi network and password.
  5. You will now see the following screen, indicating that the computer is set up for Remote Management by the University of Oxford, click Continue.

  6. After a short while you'll be asked to enter your username and password. This should be the same one you use when logging in to a computer normally at the office. For Orchard Fully Managed users it will be their "Connect" password.
  7. Complete the other screens of the Setup Assistant, making sure to set your Location either automatically or manually so that the clock is correct.
  8. You will end up at a login window, please enter your username and password again.
  9. Shortly after you log in, the screen should lock and tell you to wait while the Mac is enrolled in Orchard.
  10. This screen will clear and a new Orchard branded Welcome screen will appear. Click Continue.

DEPNotify

  1. Next is the choice of a Full or Light software bundle:
  2. • If you choose the Light software bundle it is quicker to download as it contains just the Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams and Sophos Anti Virus, you can install any additional applications later using the Orchard Software Centre.
  3. • The Full software bundle will take longer as it installs all core applications included in the Light bundle and apps such as Adobe Reader, Chrome, Firefox, Skype to name a few;

SoftwareBundle

  1. Orchard will now configure your Mac, download the software bundle you selected, and then take a final inventory.
  2. When it is done, you will be presented with a Ready to use screen, click Finish and wait for the Mac to restart.

ReadyScreen

  1. After the computer restarts, log in normally.
  2. If you are enrolling a MacBook, you will receive a prompt starting the encryption process for your MacBook, it is essential that you select and start this process. Please note your recovery key will be stored with us automatically in the event that you forget the password to your encrypted MacBook.

  3. Your computer is now ready to use!
