Hi.

We will shortly be changing the way applications are installed and updated on managed Macs. A new application called Orchard Software Centre will be installed during the next maintenance window. Please note that this installation will require a restart of your Mac.

From then on, there will no longer be a weekly maintenance period as the Orchard Software Centre will take care of checking your system for updates. Many of these updates will be installed automatically but some may require you to close software if it is already running. Please ensure such updates are applied promptly.

The Orchard Software Centre will eventually replace the previous software library in Self Service. At launch we have ensured that all key applications have been moved to the Software Centre. Over the next few weeks, we will endeavour to complete the software catalogue. We would like to use this opportunity to ask you for your suggestions on applications to be included in the Orchard Software Centre. Please send us your feedback to nsms@it.ox.ac.uk.

Self Service will continue to be your port of call for self help and maintenance tasks, such as mounting departmental shares or resetting printers.
