How to upgrade your Mac to macOS 12 Monterey

  1. Open Orchard Software Centre. You can open it from Launchpad or search for it using Spotlight (command + Space keys).
  2. Once Orchard Software Centre is open go to the Updates page. We advise performing the update over a wired Oxford network. Click the '+' button on the right to download 'Install macOS Monterey' then the 'Update' button to install all pending updates.

  3. You will need to save your work and log out. Your computer will then restart and the upgrade will begin.
  4. Allow 1 hour for the upgrade to complete (older Macs with hard disks may require longer). After around 45 minutes you will need to log into your computer and the upgrade will continue for another 15 minutes. Your computer should then be ready to use.

Further information

You will need 14.3GB free on your boot disk ‘Macintosh HD’ to download and install the upgrade. If you do not have space contact your local IT Support.

The upgrade will download approximately 5GB of data. Please be aware of this if you are on a metered connection. We strongly recommend you perform the update on a wired connection on an Oxford network.

Your computer may feel slightly slower immediately following the upgrade. This is due to the re-indexing of files on your disk for Spotlight and other optimisations. This should not take longer than twenty-four hours. We are not aware of incompatibilities with any software that Orchard currently provides.

If you have any questions or macOS 12 Monterey upgrade is not available to you please contact your local IT Support. For contact details see Support
