For economy reasons, Orchard printers are normally configured to default to A4, 2-sided and grayscale where colour is available. You can easily override this with your own settings. This can be done either on a print-by-print basis or by saving a preset for recall. We will now run through both of these processes.
Let's start with the example of wanting to print single-sided. Here's how to do this for one print only (subsequent prints will come out double-sided again):
In the application you want to print from (eg. Microsoft Word), do File --> Print to display the Print window.
In the Printer: drop-down list select the printer you want to print to. In this example I will use the printer named 'Pluto'.
Click the drop-down list which currently reads Copies & Pages and change it to the page containing the setting you want to override; we'll choose Layout as this is where the one-sided/two-sided settings reside.
The printer's Layout options should be displayed. Find the drop-down list for Two-Sided and set it to 'Off'.
Click the Print button. The document will be printed single-sided.
In order to avoid having to do the above every time you want to print single-sided, the settings can be saved as a preset, as follows:
Now to save the settings as a preset. Click the drop-down menu next to Presets: and click Save current settings as a preset....
A sub-menu will appear. Give the preset an explanatory name, eg 'single sided'.
Leave the preset as available for Only this printer (as there's no guarantee the different printer settings options will map correctly between printers).
Then click OK to save the preset.
Now when you print to Pluto, your preset will appear in the printer's Presets list. The Mac will remember which preset you used last for each printer and pre-select this, so if you want to switch back to using the default settings for a printer, you'll need to select Default Settings from the Presets list before printing.
You can save any mix of settings into a preset. So for example if you wanted a preset to print A3, single-sided, only odd pages and stapled, you should configure these settings and then follow the procedure above to save them.
