Service Desk guide to the Orchard JSS (Jamf Software Server)

The JSS is your very own device management tool to help you locate any Mac that is enrolled in the Orchard estate. It provides extensive inventory information to assist Administrators managing Orchard Macs.

Logging on

To login, Service Desk users can use CONNECT account credentials to access the web console via the link below:

https://jss.orchard.ox.ac.uk

Upon login you will arrive at the Dashboard page. Click the Computers icon to enter the search view.

Computer Devices

All desktop Computers and Laptops reside under Computers.

Simple Computer searches using Search Inventory

When searching for a Computer, consider the searchable attributes below: tip You can use asterix for searching prior to the input, after or both, you can put in any part of the text providing it is relevant and still obtain results

• Computer Name
• MAC Address
• IP Address
• Username
• Full Name
• Email Address

Search Criteria

You can use this to toggle the search for a range of different results including;

• Computers
• Applications
• Local User Accounts
• Printers

Input

1. Ensure you have selected Computer icon (top left)
2. Search Inventory is highlighted on the menu
3. Enter full or partial text with an asterix into the search bar and select search

Advanced Computer Searches

You will have noticed that there a vast amount of saved searches already in place. These will vary from full site searches which give a list of all computers attached to certain site or to something simple as OS level. You can use any saved search to just view or output the information via a csv format.

Example - select "All Computers" will return a whole list of all Orchard Managed devices

Inventory information

Every online Orchard Mac will check in and report back to the JSS on a daily basis providing inventory information. This inventory information can be found by selecting the device provided in the search.

The information will be as up to date as of the last inventory report

The General tab

The General tab will give you a break down of site, ip address, the last time it checked in and last inventory. The tabbed icons on the left such as Printers and MDM Capable users (who has logged to the machine)go further into detail and provide an excellent base for troubleshooting.

Mobile Devices

Devices such as iPhones and iPads reside under Mobile Devices

Simple Device searches using Search Inventory

The device search layout is identical to the computer search, recommended search attributes below;

• Full Name
• Username/SSO
• Device Name
• Serial Number
• Email addresses

Input

2. Search Inventory is highlighted on the menu
3. Enter full or partial text with a asterix into the search bar and select Search

Advanced Mobile Device searches

You will see pre configured device searches. Should you require any specific saved search please let us know.

The General Tab

Upon clicking on a searched device, the General Tab contains some helpful information that has been captured, such as last inventory date and iOS build. Click on any of the inventory icons for more detailed information on the device.

Users

Orchard Computer or Device users

You can use this tab to search for individual users, it will return computers/devices registered to the text entered.
