Upgrade via System Settings/Software Update

This is the preferred method to running upgrade. If you encounter any administrative prompts on running the upgrade, refer to the Self Service method.

Software Update Tahoe

  1. Click System Settings in the Dock or via the Apple symbol in the menu bar.
  2. Navigate to General/Software Update.
  3. Click on the Upgrade Now.
  4. Follow any on-screen prompts, you will be asked for username and password.
  5. Please note, your Mac will reboot as part of this process.

How to install macOS Tahoe via Self Service

This update method requires no administrative rights.

  1. Save and close any documents currently open.
  2. Launch the Self Service app Self Service Application in your dock.

  3. Locate the Upgrade to Tahoe policy, if unable to locate, click on the featured/core software menu. Now click the upgrade button.
  4. Follow any further on-screen prompts, you will be asked to enter your login password.
  5. Whilst the installer for macOS Tahoe downloads you can view the download progress; unless you click the OK button in which case this progress window will vanish, however, the download will continue in the background.
